What school did you graduate from?
Knowing the school where your potential employee graduated from can help you figure out the kind of training and background he or she has. This does not mean, though, that you will only be hiring people based on their schools. Rather, this is to be used as a gauge in knowing whether or not the person may be up for the challenge. Remember, a four-year college can be a chore and those that finish can have some great work ethics.
What degree did you finish?
Knowing the undergraduate degree that your potential employee took is also important because this is one way of knowing if the person has background with the task or job that you have available. If you’re looking for an accountant, it would be silly to hire someone with a beauty school background.
What is your work experience?
If you are looking at a potential employee who has already had some experience with working for a company in the past, then knowing their experience will also help you decide on whether or not they are the right fit for your needs.
What are your salary expectations?
Before hiring anybody, being open about salaries should be considered. Don’t be afraid to ask potential employees what their salary expectations are. After all, this is just a question to help you have an idea but nothing is to be finalized just yet. If they demand too much, be sure to ask them why they think they deserve this salary.
What is your schedule like?
Depending on the kind of job you have available, knowing a person’s expectations when it comes to schedule should also be discussed early on. If you have an opening for a full-time position then this will help you know whether or not this person can accommodate that kind of set –up.
What are your long-term plans?
As cliché as it might sound, always ask your potential employees for their goals and life plans some years from now. This can help you gauge whether or not they will most likely stick to the job and your company. Do they want to grow with you? Do you think they will plan on jumping to greener pastures when the time comes?
How do you manage stress?
Although some applicants might not be honest in answering this question, still make it a point to ask them this. This way you would know if your future employee can handle multi-tasking or is open to the idea of working under time pressure.
Are you more of a leader or a follower?
Having an idea when it comes to your employees’ personality will also be useful. Knowing if your newly-hired staff is a better leader than a follower will also help you get an idea whether or not they are a perfect fit for both the job description and your company.
